WHERE IS THE NEAREST GROCERY STORE? You can walk to several smaller convenience stores from the Blue Moon in about 2 - 10 mins. The nearest full grocery store is locally owned Champagne's and is about a 30 minute walk.  Albertson's (a bigger store with a wider selection) is about 1 and 3/4 mile away and is accessible by city bus.   HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM GREYHOUND? About 5 to 6 blocks.   HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM AMTRAK? About 8 to 9 blocks.   CAN I SMOKE AT THE BLUE MOON? Outside only.   HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO DOWNTOWN LAFAYETTE? Mais ouis.  You'll hear it sung more often than spoken in the general arena.  But if you talk to the right people and go to the right places, you'll find folks who speak it.  Mostly older people speak Cajun and/or Creole French though there are some exceptions.  The younger generation which has relatively recently picked up on the language of it's grandparents will speak a melange of Parisian, Cajun, Acadian, Creole, Quebecois, African - depending on who their teachers were.... an imported "French" teacher, a grandparent, or an old Dennis McGee recording.     WHAT IS CAJUN FRENCH? Over-simply put, Cajun French is to Parisian French as American English is to British English.  Cajun French draws from the French of Acadie (present day Nova Scotia & New Brunswick), Native American languages, Spanish, African languages, and English.  Ask when you get here...you'll get a variety of answers.   WHAT DOES CREOLE MEAN? Aaaah.  There are over 30 accepted scholarly definitions of "creole."  So, don't expect a full answer here in this FAQs section.  Suffice to say that the definition in Louisiana has changed over the years.  Originally meaning any person born in the "new world" of French and / or Spanish parentage.  Moving through a variety of definitions and continuing, as was mentioned, to mean a variety of things to a variety of people - creole can be used to describe a person of African, Haitian, French, Spanish, Native American parentage or a mixture thereof, belonging to a cultural group known as the Creoles in south Louisiana.   HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM THE FRENCH QUARTER?
